Black Tar Roses are a Dark Folk/ Americana band from Plymouth, UK, playing authentic, original music with a rootsy feel and a gritty edge.
Husband and wife team Darren Long (guitar/vocals) and his wife Sally (vocals/percussion) are joined in the UK by John Maddock (banjo/mandolin/cittern) Ian Stewart (bass) and Anna Crabtree (violin). Their producer Josiah J, a talented multi instrumentalist, adds much to their studio sound.
In LA they enjoy collaborating with Steve McCormick & Heather Donavon of ‘Love Me In The Dark’ and in Germany with Rockabilly outfits ‘The Porter Ricks‘ & ‘Doc White & The Bluenotes’.
Darren is the primary songwriter of the band, his style is gritty, historical and storytelling in nature. His years working at sea on a traditional gaff ketch also bring some nautical/sea shanty-esque themes into play.
Black Tar Roses recorded their debut album, Rebels, Rogues & Outlaws, between Momentum Studios in Plymouth and Studebaker Studio in LA. In 2020 they released charity EP Plymouth Gin, raising money for local recovery charity ‘Sailing Tectona‘.
They have just finished recording their second studio album which will be released in 2022.
The Cornwall Folk Festival goes ahead August Bank Holiday in Wadebridge, North Cornwall.
Headliner Dougie Maclean, one of Scotland’s finest songwriters, can truly hold an audience in the palm of his hand.
The town-centre festival opens with the perfectly paired O’Hooley and Tidow, whose music reached millions as TV’s Gentleman Jack’s soundtrack.
Merry Hell delight audiences across the UK with their uplifting, rock-based folk.
The festival closes with Ireland’s Gatehouse joining the youthful, trad-meets-heavy-metal energy of Granny’s Attic.
The ‘Betjeman Sessions’ feature regional musicians including Geoff Lakeman and Mike Silver, plus the ever-popular Texas exile, Steve Dan Mills.
Daytime, fans love the FAR stage’s back-to-back South-West acts. The town’s pubs, cafes and streets host a myriad of performers and dancers.
Cornish songwriting hero Harry Glasson will be Honoured Guest with special events to celebrate his 70th year and his contributions to the Duchy’s musical heritage.
