The Wisseloord Sessions
In 2023, every first Sunday of the month something very special happens.
The famous studio (where known Dutch artists like Golden Earring, Andre Hazes and The Scene and also many big artists from all over the world like ELO, Elton John, The Police, Sting, David Bowie, Michael Jackson, Scorpions, Peter Maffay, The Rolling Stones, Telly Savalas, Tina Turner, U2, Iron Maiden, Chris Brown en Foo Fighters had their recording sessions), gives music lovers the chance to take a peek behind the scenes. During the sessions you will get the scoop from a unique selection of artists to see recently recorded works performed live, before they show it to the rest of the world.
Our reporters from the Bandstart Music Family attended this first session in January 2023.
In this session we met two very creative women.
The first artist we heard was Naomi Berril.
Naomi Berrill is an Irish cello player, singer and composer.
She’s currently based in Florence
Her latest album ‘Suite dreams’ has been released on the 8th may 2020 by Warner Music.
Galway-born, Florence-based cellist Naomi Berrill is one of those brave and inventive musicians, entirely unfettered by genre, who is describing the future of art music.
Her sound, a mix of classical cello, with a fusion of folk melodies and beautiful soft vocals, reminded me of a quote by Plato: Music is a moral law. It gives soul to the universe, wings to the mind, flight to the imagination, and charm and gaiety to life and to everything.” She has got such a beautiful flageolet technique and so subtle that it takes you to higher spheres of music experience.
The second artist we met was Lizet Aviva.
Since Lizet was little, she has always been fascinated by stories. She could disappear for hours in her own world of poems, tales and drawings. After picking up the guitar at the age of 14 and discovering singer-songwriters like Joni Mitchell, Andrew Bird and Patrick Watson she turned her stories into songs. Music has been her creative outlet ever since.
Lizet Aviva’s music is like water – it carries you on a gentle stream, but also drags you down to the bottom like a whirlpool. At times honest like a clear reflection, at times a blur as the water gets rippled. Lizet writes and performs songs about outgrowing the past, dealing with old ghosts and being a wanderer in a fast spinning world. Her clear, warm voice and folky guitar embody her poetic lyrics.
We really enjoyed this music session in the Wisseloord Studio on Catharina van Renneslaan 10 in Hilversum The Netherlands.
Eatery Muze organizes the introduction and musical tour for the guests and serves great food and drinks in the diner break.
